The Indy Racing League has changed its name to the Indycar Series having regained control of the IndyCar name from rival CART. The name had been under CART control since the split with IRL but the deal that was hammered out at the time ran out at the end of 2002, enabling Indianapolis boss Tony George to take over the name again. CART is now expected to concentrate on promoting itself as Champ Car Racing.

An official announcement is expected from CART within the next few days.
