Pat Moss 1934-2008

One of the great pioneers of women in motorsport, Pat Moss, has died at the age of 74. The sister of F1 star Stirling Moss, and the wife of rally star Erik Carlsson, was a successful rally driver in her own right.

One of the great pioneers of women in motorsport, Pat Moss, has died at the age of 74. The sister of F1 star Stirling Moss, and the wife of rally star Erik Carlsson, was a successful rally driver in her own right. After a career in the equestrian world, she started competing in cars in 1953 as a co-driver for Ken Gregory, her brother' manager. She went on to driving herself and in 1960 won her first major victory on the Liege-Rome-Liege Rally. She won the European Ladies Rally Championship several times but more importantly won events outright, including the 1962 Tulip Rally and the Rally Deutschland in the same year. She moved on from BMC to Lancia and later Saab and scored several good results, inclduing third on the Monte Carlo Rally. She married in 1963 and had a daughter Suzy Carlsson in 1969.
