Meanwhile in Mexico City
The Renault F1 Team sent its Road Show to Mexico City last weekend and an estimated 300,000 fans turned out to see a 2006 Formula 1 car running on the streets of the downtown area. Mexicans have been starved of F1 since 1992 when the last Grand Prix was held at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. The Renault exhibition runs which were organised by Renault Mexico, ING Mexico and the Federal District Government saw cars running on a circuit up and down the Paseo de la Reforma, one of the city's most famous avenues. The team was represented by Giancarlo Fisichella and Nelson Piquet Jr who took turns at the wheel of an R26 car.
The Americas are an important developing market for Renault and the event is a good example of the company's policy of using F1 to boost its commercial strategy.
