Ferrari re-signs Massa until 2010

Ferrari has announced that it has re-signed Felipe Massa until the end of 2010. This is an odd announcement but taken at face value would seem to indicate that there is thus no room for Fernando Alonso at Ferrari. The announcement ends speculation that the Brazilian - who is managed to Jean Todt's son Nicolas - could move to Toyota next season.

This does not correspond with recent rumours regarding Alonso and with a great deal of internal politicking going on at Maranello, there is probably a great deal more to the announcement than meets the eye. Whatever the case, if a deal has been done, it will mean that Massa will have to be paid off if he is to be moved out of the team to make way for Alonso.
