McLaren expands to America

McLaren Electronic Systems, the specialist electronics arm of British Formula 1 racing and automotive company McLaren, has launched McLaren Electronics Inc, a North American subsidiary.

McLaren Electronic Systems, the specialist electronics arm of British Formula 1 racing and automotive company McLaren, has launched McLaren Electronics Inc, a North American subsidiary. The British company already has a firm foothold in the USA providing mechanical components in the three major NASCAR championships, electronics and software for the Indy Racing League and track support systems for the American Le Mans sportscar series. The new company will be based in Mooresville, North Carolina, in the heart of NASCAR country.

The company will be headed by Mike Phillips, previously managing director of McLaren Applied Technologies.

While McLaren Electronics Inc's core interests will remain in the motorsport arena, the business will also pursue contracts in the automotive, software and medical sectors.
