Fernando Alonso set the fastest time of the second practice session at Spa in his Renault. The session was disrupted by a rain shower after which there were several accidents as drivers pushed too hard on a damp track. Alonso was a tiny margin clear of Felipe Massa's Ferrari with the two McLarens of Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton third and fourth quickest. There was then half a second gap back to Kimi Raikkonen, who blotted his copybook in the middle of the session by backing his Ferrari into the wall. This removed the rear wing but Raikkonen was able to motor back to the pits.

Nico Rosberg ended up sixth quickest in his Williams-Toyota ahead of Sebastian Vettel's Toro Rosso and the Force India of Adrian Sutil. The top 10 was completed by Jarno Trulli's Toyota and the BMW of Nick Heidfeld. The German was just ahead of Robert Kubica with David Coulthard 12th, ahead of Sebastien Bourdais, Timo Glock's Toyota, the Williams of Kazuki Nakajima.

Sixteenth overall was Giancarlo Fisichella, although he spun and hit the wall, bringing out a red flag.

Next up was Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello in their Hondas, Nelson Piquet's Renault, which went off and Mark Webber, who also hit the wall.
