Practice 1 Report - Massa on top at Spa

Felipe Massa set the fastest time of the first practice session for the Belgian Grand Prix with a time that was three-tenths of a second ahead of his team-mate, World Champion Kimi Raikkonen. The Finn was two-tenths of a second clear of Lewis Hamilton's McLaren, with his team-mate Heikki Kovalainen next up.

Fernando Alonso was fifth fastest in his Renault, but his team-mate Nelson Piquet was nearly a second slower than the Spaniard and 10th overall.

Sixth place went to Mark Webber in his Red Bull-Renault, 1.6secs clear of David Coulthard, who ended up 15th in his Red Bull, while the Toro Rosso-Ferraris of Sebastien Bourdais and Sebastian Vettel were seventh and eighth, ahead of Timo Glock's Toyota. Jarno Trulli was 14th in the second Toyota while Toyota users Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima were 13th and 18th in their Williamses.

The two BMWs of Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld were 11th and 12th but are expected to do better when things get serious.

There was a decent showing from Force India with Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil 16th and 17th ahead of the disappointing Hondas of Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, both more than three seconds a lap off the pace of the Ferraris.

There were a number of minor incidents in the course of the session but no-one made contact with any walls.
