Jaguar confirm De la Rosa signing

JAGUAR RACING have confirmed that Pedro de la Rosa will drive for the team as a second test driver in 2001.

JAGUAR RACING have confirmed that Pedro de la Rosa will drive for the team as a second test driver in 2001.

The Milton Keynes-based team revealed that the Spanish driver has signed a one-year testing contract for this year, and he will race for the team in the future.

Jaguar's chief executive Bobby Rahal believes the signing represents an important step in the team's development.

"We are sending out a clear signal of our intention to develop Jaguar Racing into a championship challenging team in the future," Rahal said.

"Pedro demonstrated last season that he is a quick and able driver, and his input will be invaluable as we develop our R2 Formula One car over the course of the coming season."

De la Rosa, who has two years racing experience in Formula One with Arrows, will join South African youngster Tomas Scheckter as an official tester.

The move comes after the Spaniard had agreed a similar deal with Prost Grand Prix team just a month ago.
