Ferrari to begin championship defense in old car

The Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that Ferrari will begin defense of their championship using a revised version of the F2001 chassis instead of a new design.

THE Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that Ferrari will begin defense of their championship using a revised version of the F2001 chassis instead of a new design.

The advanced chassis, which was first seen at the final round of the 2001 championship in Japan, will be fitted with slightly longer sidepods, as to conform to new FIA regulations. It is expected that the old Ferrari will be powered by the next generation 051 engine however.

Many of the teams have announced launch dates for their 2002 cars, most in December and January, but Ferrari is traditionally the last to do so. It is possible that a new Ferrari chassis won't be seen until April at the San Marino Grand Prix.
