QinetiQ may be a new name in Formula 1 but in fact the company, which was originally part of the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency, has a long history of helping F1 teams to develop technologies, notably through its windtunnels at Farnborough and Bedford, which have been used by a number of teams since the early 1990s. The laboratories will be conducting materials science, working on predictive aerodynamic concepts and will be applying GPS technology for data acquisition at tests.

"QinetiQ's rich talent pool of British scientists and technology experts will make a real difference to our competitive performance," says Sir Frank Williams. "I am delighted that they are joining the team and we hope to be able to assist in the international promotion of their competencies."
