British driver Katherine Legge drove into the record books at Long Beach at the weekend, becoming the first woman to win a major open-wheel race in the United States. The 24-year-old took victory in the Toyota Atlantic race after passing Rocky Moran Jr. in the final stages of the race when his rear wheel nut came loose. Legge drives for a team owned by Champ Car boss Kevin Kalkhoven.

The last woman to win a major single-seater race was Desire Wilson, who won a British Formula 1 event at Brands Hatch in 1980.
