Robert Kubica took one step closer to returning to F1 when he underwent the last scheduled operation on his elbow today.

The surgeons in Italy have reported that they completed the operation, which is intended to recover full mobility in his right elbow, and described the outcome as "a total success".

The Renault driver suffered severe injuries during a rally accident in February, and doctors underwent a seven-hour operation to save his right hand, as well as treating his elbow, shoulder and leg.

Kubica is now recovering from this current surgery, and will resume his programme of training and rehabilitation in a few days time.
