Lotus driver Romain Grosjean has been banned from next weekend's Italian GP and fined 50,000 Euros for causing the first corner shunt in the Belgian GP that eliminated championship leader Fernando Alonso.

Grosjean moved over on Lewis Hamilton's McLaren on the run down to La Source hairpin off the grid, taking out himself, Alonso, Hamilton and Sergio Perez, who had achieved his best start position for Sauber.

Grosjean has been involved in a number of incidents in his first full F1 season and his absence at Monza next weekend is likely to mean an opportunity in a competitive car for Belgian reserve driver Jerome D'Ambrosio.

Pastor Maldonado has also penalised with two separate five place grid penalties. The first was for a blatant jump start and the second was for hitting Timo Glock's Marussia at La Source at the restart, when the Safety car for the first corner accident pulled off.
