F1 tries a new marketing idea
The F1 Rocks concept has been launched by Formula One Management and Universal Music Group with the first big event being in Singapore. LG, F1's official timing sponsor, is sponsoring the event, which will take place in Singapore's Fort Canning Park. The concerts in Singapore will span all three days of the race weekend with the line-up including the Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce, NERD, ZZ Top, Simple Minds and Chinese singer Jacky Cheung.
Bernie Ecclestone has also announced plans for two spin-off television programmes designed to show off F1 to a wider audience. One will be an hour-long entertainment show, including celebrity interviews and aspirational and lifestyle features while the other will showcase the live music performances.
