Williams hints at driver confirmation

FRANK WILLIAMS has given a clear indication that he will be using the same drivers next season - as we predicted last week. Williams told the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag that he is very satisfied with Heinz-Harald Frentzen and that the German racer has a two-year contract with the team.

"He is a fantastic driver with a lot of talent," Williams was quoted as saying. "He needs a bit more time. He is getting better with each race and I remain convinced that he can make the most of his ability."

Williams said that Villeneuve had the potential to be "one of the greats" and pointed out that this is only the Canadian's second season in F1 while Michael Schumacher is in his seventh. "Jacques," said Williams, "is young, highly intelligent, brave, committed, ambitious and mentally strong."

Williams said he will announce his drivers within a month. The announcement is expected to coincide with the news that BMW is to supply the team with F1 engines in the year 2000.
