Toyota wrap Nurburgring test

THE Cologne-based Toyota test squad ended another solitary test, this time on home ground at the Nurburgring.

The two-day test saw a fastest lap set by the team leader Mika Salo some five seconds slower than Michael Schumacher's pole time from July as preparations continue towards its F1 debut in 2002.

The Finn logged his best time of 1m 19.61s around the 2.83-mile track, comparing a little poorly with 1m 14.96s the team's focus was on getting mileage - which has so far proven hard to come by - and it professed satisfaction with the run.

"This was a pretty good test for us," said Salo. "We managed to do a lot of laps and we did all the engine mapping we were supposed to do here."

Toyota's program continues at the Hungaroring in two weeks' time.
