Stoddart looking for new engines

EUROPEAN MINARDI boss Paul Stoddart has said he is looking for new power units and admitted he is talking to two current Grand Prix engine manufacturers in a bid to replace his current Ford supply.

EUROPEAN MINARDI boss Paul Stoddart has said he is looking for new power units and admitted he is talking to two current Grand Prix engine manufacturers in a bid to replace his current Ford supply.

Minardi's current engine is overweight and lacks power and Stoddart is looking for another 50 horsepower to help Minardi move off the back of the grid.

"I can say we are talking to two engine manufacturers who are currently on the Grand Prix grid," he said.

He also revealed that young star Fernando Alonso, who is contracted to Renault, has a clause in his contract which demands he is given a good engine next year.

The Australian team-boss, who bought Minardi before the start of the season, said that he hopes to make an announcement on the engine supply within the next couple of races.
