Spanish GP gets an extension (maybe)
The Spanish Grand Prix contract has been extended to the 2011 race but the race could be cancelled after 2005 because of tobacco advertising legislation.

The Spanish Grand Prix contract has been extended to the 2011 race but the race could be cancelled after 2005 because of tobacco advertising legislation. The Formula One group has a clause in its contract which allows it to cancel the race if there is a restriction on tobacco advertising.
"We have to wait and see," said Bernie Ecclestone. "It is a pity that each country cannot make its own decision. Spain has three important motorcycle events and the Grand Prix and I think it would be good if there was a 15 day a year exemption. It seems a bit silly to have all the races leave Europe. It is the last thing we want."
Ecclestone said that he might be happy to see trackside advertising broadcasting anti-tobacco messages although it is hard to imagine that the tobacco companies would have such an enlightened view.
