WORLD CHAMPION Michael Schumacher is set to be given honorary citizenship of the Italian town of Modena.

Reports in Italy have said the three-time world champion will be honored in a ceremony at Modena's town hall on Tuesday.

Schumacher, who won his third title last year and Ferrari's first for 29 years, has been embraced by Italy after helping transform the Ferrari team.

Ferrari also secured the manufacturers' championship last season and are favorites to retain both championships when the 2001 season gets underway in Australia on March 4.
