Rahal admits rival F1 series "a real possibility"

JAGUAR boss Bobby Rahal has said that a rival series to Formula One is "a real possibility" and that a repeat of the CART/IRL split could be on the cards.

JAGUAR boss Bobby Rahal has said that a rival series to Formula One is "a real possibility" and that a repeat of the CART/IRL split could be on the cards.

"I don't know why it wouldn't be a real possibility," Rahal said. "Ultimately, especially since the carmakers now own the teams, they have the power to create whatever they want.

"If they want to invest millions more into building a series, they'll do it. They have tremendous power and have that power invested in Formula One and that's why they need to be very considered."

Rahal added that he understood why manufacturers wanted to gain a bigger slice of Formula One after their considerable investment in the series in recent years.

"They've invested millions of dollars and you want to have some control or vote or voice but there's a great responsibility that comes with that."
