Prof Watkins gets a gong!

Professor Sid Watkins has finally been recognized by the British government for his safety work in Grand Prix racing.

AS we predicted last week might happen, Professor Sid Watkins has finally been recognized by the British government for his safety work in Grand Prix racing. Sid was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Watkins has been the F1 doctor since 1978 and has been the key player in safety developments since the deaths of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger at Imola in 1994. "The Prof" has chaired the F1 safety committee which has done amazing work in terms of circuit safety, chassis work and crash-testing. Watkins has also been working to raise money for his Brain and Spine Foundation.
