Moreno returns to CART
Former Formula 1 driver Roberto Moreno is back in action again in America, having signed to drive for Herdez Competition in CART this year. The Brazilian will partner Mexico's Mario Dominguez. The team is run by another former F1 hand Keith Wiggins, the former owner of the Pacific Grand Prix team.
Moreno (43) has been racing at the top level for 20 years but did not make a major impact in F1 until 1990 when he replaced the injured Sandro Nannini at the Japanese Grand Prix and finished second behind his team mate and mentor Nelson Piquet. He was unceremoniously ditched by the team the following year when it decided to hire Michael Schumacher. His F1 career faded after that and Roberto then went to America where he built up a reputation for being a safe pair of hands and finally landed a fulltime ride with Patrick Racing in 2000, becoming one of the frontrunners in the series. Financial constraints meant that Roberto did not race last year.
The team is keen to use Moreno's experience to help Dominguez develop.
