Monterrey, Mexico's third largest city, is a powerhouse of business and industry but at the same time is in the process of trying to build up its tourist trade having been overshadowed by the recent development of the Mexican beach resorts. The city wants to change that and since 2001 has been running a Champ car race in the Parque Fundidora, a giant park close to the city centre which houses the city's Expo and Convention Center. This attracts big crowds and has made some impression on building up the image of Monterrey but the Mexicans want more and having a race track already built they have a big advantage over other F1 projects in Mexico. The local government now seems to be pursuing the possibilities of an F1 race.
