Katherine Legge, the British girl who is racing this year in Champ Car, walked away from a collosal accident at Road America at the weekend when the rear wing fell off her car. The car went out of control and hit a barrier and flipped. The engine was torn off and the survival cell was sent bouncing down the track, coming to rest upside-down. Safety crews were on the scene immediately but Legge was conscious and unharmed except for some heavy bruising. The race was red-flagged and it took 42 minutes to clear away the wreckage and fix the damaged barriers.

Legge was having her best race of the year when the accident occurred and was fighting for sixth place.
