Japanese Grand Prix in doubt

Although the Formula 1 cars and equipment are already in Japan it remains to be seen whether the Grand Prix at Suzuka will go ahead following the first retaliatory attacks on Afghanistan following the September 11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.

ALTHOUGH the Formula 1 cars and equipment are already in Japan it remains to be seen whether the Grand Prix at Suzuka will go ahead following the first retaliatory attacks on Afghanistan following the September 11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. It is still too early to know how much civil aviation will be disrupted by the attacks which commenced on in the course of Sunday night in Afghanistan.

The F1 circus is due to begin gathering in Japan in the next couple of days. Any decision about the race will be taken on Monday by Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone and FIA President Max Mosley in consultation with the Japanese racing authorities and the government.
