Honda engine gives us motivation - Frentzen

GERMAN Heinz-Harald Frentzen has said that Jordan's 2001 Honda engine deal has given the team the motivation they need to erase the memories of a disappointing 2000 season.

Jordan failed to repeat their performance of 1999, when they finished third in the championship behind Ferrari and McLaren, but Frentzen insisted that the new Honda works power-unit that will power their challenge next year has given the team something major to focus upon.

"Psychologically, nothing is wrong with Jordan," Frentzen said. "It looks like we have taken a step backwards, but we have just been unlucky.

"We have gained a lot of experience and have made a lot of improvements to the car, which might not have always have been visible.

"We have the Honda engine in 2001, which is great, and that has made the whole team very motivated for next year."

Team-boss Eddie Jordan said that he expects the new engine deal to get the Silverstone-based team back to winning ways in 2001.

Jordan said: "We have learnt more this year than last and the disappointments have made us more determined than ever to be back to winning races. Our new partnership with Honda will be key to achieving that goal."
