JORDAN's Heinz-Harald Frentzen set fastest time at a rather empty Monza circuit as the keenest of the Formula One teams began post-French Grand Prix testing at the Italian circuit.

Three teams - Jordan, Sauber and McLaren - were present, and all four cars on the circuit were covered by just half a second.

Frentzen, who concentrated on testing different brake materials and cooling set-ups, headed off Sauber's Nick Heidfeld at the top.

McLaren's test driver Alexander Wurz continued his testing program for the team and finished a further two tenths off the pace, while Jordan's second man Ricardo Zonta concentrated on aerodynamic work and was also not too far off the pace.

Jaguar and British American Racing will join the three teams at Monza on Wednesday.

While the rest of the Grand Prix teams will spread themselves around Barcelona, Mugello and Fiorano, and Arrows head to Viorano to conduct straight-line aerodynamic testing.
