Courtney goes to Japan

Former Jaguar Racing test driver James Courtney was hoping to race for Arden International in the International Formula 3000 series this year but the Australian F1 aspirant has had to settle for second best and is off to drive for the TOMS Toyota team in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship in 2003.

Former Jaguar Racing test driver James Courtney was hoping to race for Arden International in the International Formula 3000 series this year but the Australian F1 aspirant has had to settle for second best and is off to drive for the TOMS Toyota team in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship in 2003.

The 22-year-old from Emu Plains, near Sydney, started last year as favourite to win the British Formula 3 Championship but a huge testing crash in a Jaguar F1 car at Monza disrupted his season and he was beaten to the title by Robbie Kerr.

Courtney is hoping that success in Japan will lead to work in F1 in the future, perhaps with Toyota.
