Coulthard the center of attention in Britain
DAVID COULTHARD may expect to be the focus of attention as he is currently joint leader of the world championship but he has received some unwanted attention in the British tabloid newspapers this weekend.
Coulthard, who would prefer to concentrate on his quest to win a first world title, has received plenty of coverage concerning certain aspects of his personal life.
The Scottish driver, who split with fiancee Heidi Wichlinski before the start of the season, was on the front page of the DAILY STAR newspaper on Saturday as a Brazilian lady detailed her alleged liaisons with Coulthard before the San Marino Grand Prix.
The story, involving detailed quotes from the Brazilian woman, was taken further in Sunday's NEWS OF THE WORLD newspaper in a double-page spread.
Coulthard has made the best start of his Formula One career as he has been on the podium in all four races - culminating in a win in Brazil.
Critics in the paddock have put the impressive start down to Coulthard's single life after his split from Miss Wichlinski, but the driver dismissed claims that is why he is racing so well.
"It just would not be right to say I feel more able to drive if I don't have a live-in girlfriend," said Coulthard in the Sunday Express. "I had some great races when I was with her (Wichlinski) as well."
Coulthard has always talked a good fight before the championships, but as he prepares for possibly his best chance to win his maiden title this year he hinted that being single, and more selfish, could help his chances.
He added in the SUNDAY EXPRESS: "When you are in Formula One, be it a driver or whatever, you cannot travel as much as we do without being a bit selfish. That makes it a difficult thing for relationships.
"Now I am quite comfortable with the fact that this is what I enjoy in life and everyone has to fit in around me."
