John Harnden, the chief executive of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, is moving on to better things, having been appointed the new chief executive of the Commonwealth Games.

JOHN HARNDEN, the chief executive of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, is moving on to better things, having been appointed the new chief executive of the Commonwealth Games which will be held in Melbourne in 2006. The Games are being organized by a committee headed by Ron Walker, the man behind the Australian GP.

Harnden has been involved in F1 since the late 1980s when he was working as an engineer on the Grand Prix in Adelaide. He joined the Melbourne team in 1993 and worked as deputy chief executive to Judith Griggs before taking over from her in 1998 at the age of only 32.

Harnden will take over his new post in a few days but no replacement has yet been named for the Grand Prix organization.
