The Hungaroring is to be lengthened by just over 400m this year in an effort to make overtaking easier at various points on the track. The changes will include the extension and complete reprofiling of the first corner with the fast corner behind the pits at the end of the lap being tightened to make it possible for overtaking moves to be attempted although it is anticipated that the main overtaking point will remain the first corner. Hungary has a contract for several more years and is upgrading because it fears that eventually the arrival of a Formula 1 event in Russia will make it redundant.
