FERRARI ramped up the F1 stakes today with the announcement that Luca Badoer would be joined on the test team from the start of next season by the 26-year old Brazilian driver Luciano Burti who drove for the Jaguar and Prost team this season.

Burti, whose racing season was abruptly terminated after a 180mph smash in the Prost AP04 at the Belgian GP, will add to Maranello's technical firepower and his appointment indicates the team's determination to bid for a World Championship hat trick in 2002.

Jean Todt, the General Director of the Gestione Sportiva, will also be responsible for two new areas of activity. The F1 Sporting department will come under the control of Stefano Domenicali, who will be the liaison with the sporting authorities and for logistics and dealing with sponsors. There will also be a separate Maserati and Ferrari Owners' Racing department which will look after the development of all motorsport activities outside F1 headed by Claudio Berro who relinquished his position in charge of the Motor Sport Press office to Luca Colajanni.
