The 25-year-old Frenchman, who wants to use Champ Cars to break into Formula 1, now takes the lead in the series point standings from his Newman Haas Racing team mate, former Williams F1 test driver Bruno Junqueira. He now leads the series by 28 points after four wins in five races in his McDonalds-sponsored car. Jimmy Vasser has his best finish of the year with second place, his first podium since he became an owner-driver with PKV Racing.
