THE FIA stewards issued a press statement on Friday morning in France, indicating that Enrique Bernoldi would be allowed to compete in the French GP. The previous day the official entry list had included Bernoldi but only subject to payment of an outstanding fine. This is believed to have been related to a speeding fine of $4500 from the Canadian GP.

In normal circumstances a team would pay a fine immediately, normally with a check but it is not clear whether this happened in Montreal or whether the check was not paid by the Arrows bankers. Whatever the case the problem was solved at 10.45 on Friday morning in France, presumably with the team paying the fine.

This however did not help the team get out onto the race track as there are clearly other outstanding legal issues to be resolved.
