WHILE the other teams were busy at Jerez and Silverstone, Ferrari chose to stay at home in Italy, running at its Fiorano test track. The work began on the Monday after the team's dreadful showing at Hockenheim with test driver LucaÊBadoer completing 75 laps of the track with a best lap of 1m03.143s. On the Tuesday morning Eddie Irvine was back in action and in the course of the next two days the Ulsterman completed a total of 220 laps of the track with a best of 1m02.169s. The test included running in wet conditions on Wednesday morning - the team sprayed the track with water - to test new Bridgestone wet tires. The procedure was repeated on Thursday morning when Michael Schumacher took over. The German began testing in the cool of the morning - at 7am - and by the end of the day (at 8pm) - he had completed 108 laps in wet and dry conditions. He continued with his testing work through Friday and Saturday.
