MANY of the F1 teams were back testing on Tuesday preparing for the final two Grand Prix of 2001 in the United States and Japan.

Jean Alesi posted the fastest time during cold and wet testing conditions at Silverstone with a lap of 1m34.03s. The Jordan team also tested Formula Nippon contender Narain Karthikeyan today and plans to test International F3000 Champion Justin Wilson on Thursday. Karthikeyan, in just his second outing in a F1 car, was 2 seconds off Alesi's pace in less than favorable conditions.

McLaren test driver Alexander Wurz was second fastest on the day, just over half a second slower than Alesi's Jordan.

Jenson Button, who was involved in a first turn accident in Monza with Jarno Trulli, was third fastest at Silverstone in the Benetton.

Testing will resume at Silverstone today and conclude on Thursday as the teams will be dealing with the logistics of getting all their equipment and personnel to Indianapolis.
