V8 Supercars for Singapore?

The Australian V8 Supercars are reported to be bidding to be part of the programme at the Singapore Grand Prix in September 2009. V8 Supercars chairman Tony Cochrane has had discussions with the race organisers about having the V8 race during the day and the F1 cars at night. The V8s were not at the Australian GP this year but will return to the programme in Albert Park in 2008. The race cannot take place in 2008 because it would fall between the new Phillip Island 500 endurance race and the Bathurst 1000 and teams would not be able to cope with all the logistical problems but dates may change in 2009.

Cochrane has also said that V8 Supercars will continue with the Desert 400 race in Bahrain and is also talking about running street races in Perth and in Sydney. The Oran Park circuit in New South Wales is to close next year and that would mean that the V8 Supercars might not be seen in New South Wales at all unless a deal can be struck as the V8 Supercar organisation is not at all keen on Eastern Creek.
