UK civil awards for Newey and Mansell

Adrian Newey has been awarded an OBE (Officer of the order of the British Empire) in the UK New Year's Honours list.

Adrian Newey has been awarded an OBE (Officer of the order of the British Empire) in the UK New Year's Honours list.

The honour, for services to motorsport, rewards the 53-year-old's achievement of masterminding world championship winning designs for three different constructors: Williams, McLaren and Red Bull. It comes after a season in which the Red Bull RB7 won 12 of 19 grands prix amid one of the most competitive eras in F1 history.

Nigel Mansell, already an OBE following his world championship success in Newey's Williams FW14B in 1992, is now a CBE (Commander), the citation coming for services to children and young people in his role as president of the UK Youth charity.
