Bernie Ecclestone has had a meeting with the French Prime Minister Francois Fillon and the country's Minister of Health, Youth and Sport Roselyne Bachelot and the word is that the future of the French Grand Prix has been secured at Magny-Cours for two more years. There is a further period of two years for which there is an option to continue but France is now looking at alternative venues, in an effort to find a more cost-effective solution for the long term.

Fillon is a big fan of motorsport and a member of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, which runs the Le Mans circuit. he has also competed on occasion in events as a gentleman driver.
