JACKIE STEWART will announce in London this week that he has signed up two major new sponsors for his Grand Prix team. Stewart Grand Prix has lost its backing from the Malaysian government and there are rumors that there are problems with the Texaco deal as well but Stewart says that he has a bigger budget next year and all the signs are that the new team is continuing to expand.

It remains to be seen which are the companies involved but Stewart was talking to British Telecom and MCI about backing from their planned merger - which would have created a company called Concert. This fell through and MCI was later taken over by Worldcom - which may be one of Stewart's backers.

All Stewart will reveal at the moment is that his new backers are both high-technology multinationals.
