Silverstone gets a nod (wink still to come)

The British Racing Drivers' Club has announced that the South Northamptonshire Council's Cabinet Committee has adopted the plans laid out in the Joint Silverstone Circuit Development Brief. The plans have already been endorsed by Aylesbury Vale District Council. This means that the club's vision for the future will now go ahead to gaining planning permission. An application is expected shortly and if all goes to plan work will begin in order to have the new pits and paddock development finished in 2009.

The British Racing Drivers' Club has announced that the South Northamptonshire Council's Cabinet Committee has adopted the plans laid out in the Joint Silverstone Circuit Development Brief. The plans have already been endorsed by Aylesbury Vale District Council. This means that the club's vision for the future of Silverstone will now go ahead to gaining planning permission. An application is expected shortly and if all goes to plan work will begin in order to have the new pits and paddock development finished in 2009.

The proposals put forward include the new pit and paddock complex, a manufacturer test centre, a business park, an extreme sport and leisure complex, two hotels, a university campus, a Welcome Centre and a number of new homes in Silverstone village.

"The adoption of the Development Brief means that for the first time in its long and illustrious history, Silverstone is now being considered as a whole, with an eye towards what it can deliver to the UK as well as meeting the needs of the Grand Prix," says Spencer Canning, Silverstone's Development Director. "This is an important step towards creating a framework for the delivery of a world-class venue for motorsport, education and high technology development."
