Sauber to request name change

Peter Sauber is looking to make an application to change the name of his formula one team sometime this season.

Peter Sauber is looking to make an application to change the name of his formula one team. Despite the fact that the giant German car manufacturer withdrew from the sport at the end of last season and sold the F1 team back to Sauber, they kept the BMW Sauber F1 Team name for the start of the season.

Sauber has confirmed that his team will request a name change sometime in the season, but has not done so already as it is difficult to get the other teams to agree to let them make the change, and they did not want to risk losing out of any television rights income.

Peter Sauber said, "We will submit an application for a chassis name change, but the timing has yet to be decided. We have still a white car unfortunately, because it is impossible to find sponsors during January and February - especially big sponsors. Today we are looking for sponsors for the 2011 season. I hope we will find some sponsors for this season. If we find a title sponsor for 2011 in the middle of the year then maybe we can have them for this season too."
