The practice sessions on Saturday morning for the European Grand Prix have revealed that McLaren is still ahead of the game in F1 at the moment with Kimi Raikkonen quickest with a 1m29.680s, a tenth faster than team mate Juan Pablo Montoya. The two Renaults were two-tenths behind with Fernando Alonso ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella by a tiny margin. There was then a big gap back to Jarno Trulli's Toyota which was just faster than Nick Heidfeld's Williams. Takuma Sato showed BAR-Honda pace with the seventh best time ahead of Ralf Schumacher (Toyota), Jenson Button (BAR) and Michael Schumacher (Ferrari).

Rubens Barrichello was next up with Tonio Liuzzi in 12th place in his Red Bull. Mark Webber was 13th ahead of Felipe Massa (Sauber), David Coulthard (Red Bull) and Jacques Villeneuve in the second Sauber. The two Minardis are now faster than the Jordans and the gap between Minardi and Sauber is smaller than it has been for years.
