Rolex signs F1 deal

Iconic luxury Swiss watchmaker Rolex has signed a deal to become a major long-term partner of Formula 1 from 2013 as official timekeeper and official timepiece.

Iconic luxury Swiss watchmaker Rolex has signed a deal to become a major long-term partner of Formula 1 from 2013 as official timekeeper and official timepiece.

"Without question, Rolex is the partner of choice for a world class sporting series like Formula One," said Bernie Ecclestone.

Sir Jackie Stewart has been a rolex ambassador for 40 years and the brand has a prominent presence in a number of major sporting arenas, such as the Wimbledon tennis championship and The Open golf.

In the late 1950s Rolex became a partner of the Daytona International Speedway and in 1963 the circuit gave its name to the Rolex chronograph created for racing drivers, the Cosmograph Daytona.

The Rolex logo will be positioned around F1 circuits and the company plans to develop its presence in the sport over the coming years, starting in 2013.
