Following the Russian Grand Prix, the stewards of the race handed Kimi Raikkonen a 10-second stop-and-go penalty for causing an avoidable accident when he punted off his fellow countryman Valtteri Bottas on the final lap of the race, while they were running in third and fourth at the time.

Since Raikkonen was unable to serve the penalty during the race, this was later converted to a 30 second penalty added to his final classification.

The penalty pushed Raikkonen from fifth down to eighth in the final positions - moving Daniil Kvyat up to fifth, Felipe Nasr to sixth and Pastor Maldonado up to seventh.

Also, as a result of Raikkonen scoring four points rather than ten points, Mercedes GP now clinches the Constructors World Championship for the second year in a row, with four rounds of the season remaining.

Fernando Alonso was also penalised after the race, with a 5 second penalty added to his result for cutting the apex of Turn 16 during the race. As a result he finished 11th, not tenth, and handed the final point to Max Verstappen.
