Sergio Perez will be examined by FIA doctor Gary Hartstein in Montreal next week before hopefully being given the green light to drive in the Canadian GP.

Perez was released from Monaco's Princess Grace hospital on Monday after he suffered concussion and a bruised thigh in a high speed accident during qualifying for the Monaco GP.

"I think it's a little bit early to say," Peter Sauber said following the Monaco race when asked if Perez would be back in the car in Montreal. "We hope so but you have to be careful with head injuries and the brain. The first scan was okay, the one on Sunday was okay but you have to be aware of potential swelling and monitor everything."

Perez himself said: "I feel okay. I have a little bit of pain in my leg and neck, but this comes from muscles and is nothing to worry about. On Sunday I still felt a bit dizzy but that is all. I want to say thank you for all the messages I received. I'm very grateful for all the support and feel sorry for not having replied to all of the messages. There were so many and my phone very quickly ran out of battery!"

Sauber said that it was important for Perez to take things easy before flying to Montreal next week.

"He's okay, but it's important to keep him a little bit down, because the first thing he did on Saturday night was to watch the football (the champions league final between Barcelona and Manchester United)."

Perez had split loyalties, being a close friend of Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez, the first Mexican to play for Manchester United, but also spending a lot of time in Barcelona, where he knows many of their players too.

Perez then watched the Monaco race from hospital. "It was such a shame I couldn't take part," he said, "but I'm very happy about the team's good result and I'm sure we can get more of the same soon."
