Peter Cooper, a noted British motor sport adminstrator, has died at the age of 86. Cooper became Chief Executive for the Royal Automobile Club Motor Sports Association in 1982, following the death of Basil Tye.

Peter Cooper, a noted British motor sport adminstrator, has died at the age of 86. Cooper became Chief Executive for the Royal Automobile Club Motor Sports Association in 1982, following the death of Basil Tye. Cooper also became chairman of the Motor Sports Council and in 1983 was elected to the FISA Executive Committee, the forerunner of the World Motor Sport Council. He represented British interests at the FIA until 1987, becoming an FIA Vice President and, his retirement, a Vice President d'Honneur. A rally driver in the 1950s, who finished second on the RAC Rally in 1954, Cooper played an important role in developing karting in Britain and was often an FIA steward at international events.
