The High Court in London has refused an injunction against the News of the World which would have prevented them from publishing the controversial video of FIA President Max Mosley.

The video was initially removed from the publications website, but Mr. Justice Eady today refused the injunction, saying that it would make "little practical difference".

Justice Eady said, "I have, with some reluctance, come to the conclusion that although this material is intrusive and demeaning, and despite the fact that there is no legitimate public interest in its further publication, the granting of an order against this respondent at the present juncture would merely be a futile gesture."

Mosley's lawyer, James Price QC, said, "It is merely disseminating demeaning and humiliating material."

The News of the World's legal manager, Tom Crone said, "Max Mosley's attempt to suppress the News of the World's video of his sordid activities has failed. The film is now back on the News of the World website."

The video was seen over 1.4m times between March 30-31.
