The Honda Racing F1 team has promoted Mariano Alperin to be its new chief aerodynamicist. The 40-year-old Argentine engineer has been with the team since it was established as BAR in 1998. After studying for a Masters degree in Physics at the University of Toulouse Alperin went on to study aeronautical engineering at the world-renowned Ecole Nationale Superieur de l'Aeronautique et de l'Espace, Europe's top aerospace school and was recruited when he graduated by the AGS team. The timing was bad as a number of teams were in financial trouble at the time and after spells with three different teams, Alperin moved to the Durango Formula 3000 team before being hired by Minardi in 1994. He was put in charge of the aerodynamic programme at the Fondmetal Technologies windtunnel at Casumaro, where he worked closely with Jean-Claude Migeot for several seasons before being lured away to British American Racing in 1998.

The move means that Alperin will take overall responsibility for the team's aerodynamic activities.
