Carlos Sainz will get a five-places penalty for this afternoon™s Canadian Grand Prix grid after Toro Rosso found it necessary to replace the gearbox on his STR11. The young Spanish driver hit the infamous Wall of Champions at the start of yesterday™s Q2 session before setting a lap time, but was set to start the race from 15th place, as team mate Daniil Kvyat carried a three-places penalty from the previous race. Once the team recovered his car from Parc Ferm©, the Italian mechanics found the gearbox had been damaged in the crash and had to replace it with a new one.

Today™s penalty means Sainz will start the race from 21st and last on the grid, as Renault™s Kevin Magnussen will have to start the Canadian Grand Prix from the pit lane after his team built him a new car around the spare monocoque, following his crash at the end of FP3.
